Question of the Week: NaSoAlMo

An album: would you like to make one of your own?

The cold, dark month of November has begun. And that means it's time to hole up indoors and write and record some music!

So, the question is: are you doing NaSoAlMo?

(Inter)National Solo Album Month, is a contest/challenge inspired by the popular NaNoWriMo, or National Novel Writing Month, contest. NaSoAlMo participants write and record a solo album within the month of November. "Winners" will have completed an album that runs at least 29:09 (the length of the first Ramones album) by the end of the month.

The challenge is designed to motivate musicians to silence their inner-critics, conquer writer's block and have fun creating a piece of work at break-neck speed. You can register an account at the NaSoAlMo website to log and discuss your album progress and offer and receive encouragement.

I know of one other Portlander currently doing this. I'd be curious to see if there are more, or any non-Portlander CIMTB readers who are doing the NaSoAlMo thing.

This sounds fun. Just did the 3-day Novel contest, don't know if my family will put up with Nanowrimo. Betcha I can get an album made. Any bloggers want to guest on it? Goldie, Eriq, and Amber, I'm looking at you.

Awesome! I'm really glad you're doing this, Jess. Maybe we should have a whole CIMTB NaSoAlMo team. We can continually pester each other to work on our respective albums and maybe throw a listening party next month (if I'm not too embarrassed).

Pestilence-themed album, Dr., it sounds awesome. I think I actually am going to resurrect a song fragment/title and use it as the keystone to a concept album, myself.

So now having looked at the nature of the challenge, I'm sorry for my invitation to the bloggers to guest on my album, as it is all solo-only. Instead, I will encourage you to take up the challenge thyselves! I SUMMON THEE WITH THE ELEMENTS!!!

And a listening party is a great idea. Communal embarassment= great afterblog.

You're totally right. The afterblog would be a slelf-referential masterpiece.

unfortunately, I don't think my songwriting skills have evolved much since my 15-year old mopeass attempts at guitar (and NO, NO, NO, nobody's going to hear that.) Others write, I play, that's how I roll. But I do look forward to hearing you guys' contributions. :)
