Last night practice won over seeing a show again. But it was totally worth it. I would also like to take an opportunity to announce a new band which is actually two bands in one. Nanda Devi + AristeiA = Nandasteia. We had our first joint practice last night and have finished the first part of a song (about 10 minutes worth of music). It was rad. There were three guitars, two basses, and two drummers (and we were missing a member). So be on the look out for that. Anyway here are the shows that look good to me.
Tuesday, November 10th
"The Woods is having a show with Loch Lomond and Tu Fawning. This is a now brainer. Both of these bands are great. I have been a fan of Loch Lomond for a long time. I love the lush arrangements that the group comes up with, and Ritchie Young's bizarre songs are really great. It is weird surreal chamber-pop music. Tonight they are officially releasing their new ep entitled "Night Bats" Tu Fawning is the natural progression of the relationship between Corrina Repp and Joe Haege (of 31 Knots). If you have two musicians that are going to be spending a lot of time together, most likely a band will form. I am glad it did. I often get the song "Out Like Bats" stuck in my head (for example it is in there right now). They have also since their inception added two more members and the live show from what I have heard has progressed even further. In fact I was told by several people that when they last played they killed it. The show is $12 and starts at 9 PM.
The Crystal Ballroom is having a OHSU Global Health Center benefit show at Lola's Room with Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside, The Ascetic Junkies, and The Winebirds. I have written about these all of these bands before. Especially Sallie. She is great. This seems like it is a good cause. Plus since it starts at 7, there is a potential for more shows later if you are so inclined. The show is $7 and starts at 7 PM.
Valentine's is having a show with The Slaves, Pete Swanson (ex-Yellow Swans, Ryan Jewell (Columbus, OH), and Truth Syrum. This appears to be a kinda experimental show. And by that I mean not a straight up pop show. I am mostly writing about it because of how impressed I was when I saw The Slaves open for Nurses a few months ago. It was beautiful. I bought their CD but it did not do the live show justice. If your like ambient-pop, check out this show. The show is FREE and starts at 9 PM.
The Artistery is having a show with White Fang, Sewn Leather (Not Baltimore), and Mill on Bra zillion. This is another music release show. But this is not for an ep but an honest to goodness full length. Specifically for White Fang whose new album is called "Whatever". I have seen on a few occasions and decided to like. Let me warn you though, I also know people who do not like this band. They are kinda punk and are really energetic and somewhat "wild". I have always had fun at their shows. The ALL AGES show is $6 and starts at 8 PM.
So if you see me at any of these shows, please say "Hi". Cause you should live life to the fullest

Hey ben, Thanks. I just got back from a show...I was planning on going to Valentine's, but I didn't know how packed that place got. So I walked across the street to Berbati's and saw this band called Headlights. The show was free cause I got there late, but seriously, it rocked.
Thanks again.
David
David. Holy Crap. I love Headlights. They are so good. you got in for FREE? I am jealous.
Yeah man, I missed the openers, but saw almost all of the Headlights set for free. By the way, if your ever looking for somebody hit up some of these shows with you, I've been going to the last couple by myself.
