Ben Meyercord's Live Music Picks for Monday, November 9th

Hello Dear Readers,

I missed all of the shows last night. You know my deal. I try to go to shows, but sometimes I fail. Last night I had a Meyercord practice. My friend Perry has a fire place. It was so nice and warm. I didn't ever want to leave. But I did about 10 I did. Or rather he asked if I wanted a ride home (a very polite way of letting me know it was time to get out of his home). I think I have told you all my policy of not attending shows when they have already started. Basically, I don't with a rare exception. Last night was not an exception. Anyway, there was not a lot I can recommend today. I will list this one show because it looks interesting.

Monday, November 9th

Dunes is having a show with Moomaw (Barcelona,Spain), Glass Teeth, and Joel Kraft. This is not freak folk but it is peculiar. Moomaw is a 27 year old Spaninard (don't worry, his songs are in English) who makes pleasent folk music built up from layers of his many many instruments (stringed things and toy pianos and such). His latest album, "26" was made last year. I mean littlerally it took all of last year. He wrote a song a month to document it. I think that is a cool idea. Like those people who take a picture everyday sort of thing. Glass Teeth, who I missed play last night, is the music of Nora Zimmerly. It is a girl and a guitar. But unlike many a girl and her guitar, she is different. Her voice is strong. She strums her guitar hard. There is no delicate plucking. It is mostly sad songs. But unlike people who write "woe is me songs", there is a genuine sadness that lies underneath these songs. Or so it seems to me. Then there is Joel Kraft. His bio on his myspace uses the word "nice" an awful lot. And after listening to his songs a bit I tend th agree. They seem nice. The show is at 9 PM.

So if you see me at any of these shows, please say "Hi". I do love a good greeting.

-Ben

This is another Video of Glass Teeth. She plays Dunes tonight.

If you completed one song a month....you would have twelve songs! That's about the average right? What a brilliant freaking idea!
