Ben Meyercord's Live Music Picks for Friday May 7th

Hello Dear Readers,

Last night was awesome. Not only did I get to play music to a bunch of people and also get to see The Slaves and AAN both play amazing sets, but I also had a reader come up to me and say hi. Thank you Terry. You are the best. Anyways I do believe there are some shows worth checking out tonight. I mean if you didn't get your ticket to see Jonathan Richmond play at The Know, you should peep these out:

Berbati's is having the Willamette Week's Best New Band showcase with Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, Typhoon, and Deelay Ceelay. Oh yeah, did we forget to mention that the Willamette Week's Best New Band list was released on Wednesday? The winner was Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside. I have been a supporter of Sallie since I first saw her almost two years ago. At the time she was room mates with Luzelena from Y La Bamba. I met them both and was like, "you guys are going to be famous". Looks like I was right. The show is FREE and starts at 9 PM.

The Waypost is having a show with Petoskey, Calla Louise and Paris Brewer. Petoskey is the band that features Angie the violinist from Pigeons as the front person. It is really good. I ran unit her the other night and she told me that I had to check out these other artists. She seems to have pretty good tastes, so I trust her judgement. The ALL AGES show is FREE and starts at 8 PM.

Backspace is having a show with Slow Skate (Seattle), Billygoat, and Tarlton(Minneappolis). All I am saying is that seeing Billygoat is a must. The audio visual experience is really unparralelled. I think it is great. I currently have three pieces of their artwork in my home and hope to eventually get more. The ALL AGES show is

Rotture is having a show with Quiet Countries, Sleepy Eyes of Death, Jatun, and Saudade. This the CD release show for Seattle's Sleepy Eyes of Death. I saw them once a while back and was very impressed with their music and equally impressed with their light show. I have always dug on Quiet Countries. Jatun mix shoegaze and digital white noise. Pretty cool. Saudade makes pretty to pretty loud noise music. If you are into this sort of stuff, and I am. You might check the show out. The show is $7 and starts at 9 PM.

If you see me at any of these shows please say, "Hi". Terry did and now he is famous (I mean I wrote about him in a blog. Instant fame).

-Ben

Damn.. I think I have a crush on Sallie Ford now.

What the fuck is wrong with her?

I guess I would question WW's designation of this band as best new whatever. It's just sloppy and not even the good kind. Oh well. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, and nobody has a crush on me.

Are talking about the music or WW's designation of this band of new whatever?

Well, I'm always suspicious of their designations, but in this case it seems (from this example) that their pick is definitely wack.

Is their recorded output any good? Or their live work apart from this video?
