Yesterday at work sucked. I did not have any time to blog. I know I know. Boo hoo. But I really wanted to tell you about the AristeiA show that we played last night at Doug Fir. We played with We're From Japan! who played a few songs that I had never heard. They were great. It was fun, and you know what? If you want to see us play, in case you missed us we are playing next week. But whatevs. Here are the shows I think look to me.
Tuesday, December 2nd
Laurelthirst is having Nick Jaina play the happy hour slot every Wednesday this month starting today. Nick Jaina writes very good narrative folk songs. Plus he has assembled one of the best bands in Portland. The show is FREE and starts at 6 PM.
Doug Fir is having a show with Blue Horns, Sean Flinn & the Royal We, and The Nightgowns (Tacoma). I believe that this doubles as a Birthday party for Andrew Stern of Blue Horns. Blue Horns are a great pop band. They have energetic and jangly guitars and the lead singer yelp is very engaging. Then there is Sean Flinn who you may know from playing guitar in Jolie Holland's band, or Nick Jaina's band, or most recently Y La Bamba. You may not know this, but he writes ridiculously good songs. Luz Elena any I (also from Y La Bamba) also have been playing with him recently adding harmonies and other instruments. The Nightgowns play pop music that have some synth and drum machine touches. Or at least the one song I heard did. The show is $5 and starts at 9 PM.
Ella Street Social Club is having a show with Travis Wiggins, Joseph Demaree, and Davis Hooker. Travis Wiggins is also of Please Step Out of The Vehicle the crazy pop band. Tonight he will be playing a special folk set. I used to see him in a folk setting a loooong time ago. It was good. Joseph is of the band Unit Breed. Davis Hooker plays music as A John Henry Memorial and last night my good friend Mat (of The Sarcastic Dharma Society) totally vouched for him. Mat told me that he writes some of the best songs ever.
If you see me at any of these shows please say, "Hi".

I was wrong. It was a birthday show for Collin of the Blue Horns.
I looked like such a jerk showing up with a cake that said "Happy Birthday Andrew." :(
