Hello Dear Readers,
I have had a bit of a vacation week folks. That is to say that the woman I love has been in town and we have been hanging out all week. I went and saw Like a Villain on Tuesday which was great. But other than that have skipped all shows and blogging. But I am back and happy to report that there is some good music going on tonight. See:
The Woods is having a show with Ruby Feathers, Brush Prairie, and Duover. I am listing this show because of Duover. Nathan Jr and Rebbecca Rasmussen are a duo that make sweet sweet music together. After be the secret weapon for many of Portland Folks (most notably M. Ward) it was nice to see him in the forefront with his lovely partner and wife. Together they have penned two albums worth of great folk pop and sometimes rock songs. You should check them out. I see that they have recently changed their debut album to "pay what you want" status. The show is $7 and starts at 9 PM.
Rontoms is having a show with The Hugs, Rocky & The Proms, and Charts. This is a great rock show. Not any thing heavy. Nothing with absolute shredding solos or anything. Just fun high energy rock. The Hugs were really hyped at the beginning of their career. They were flown over to England and got put through the hype machine and have now been spit out intact back home to Portland. They apparently have new members and new sound and basically a new lease (literally?) on life as a band. Rocky and The Proms is a band that I heard for the first time relatively recently. I think that their brand of pop sounds really fresh. It is like if Monarques and The Strokes accidentally had a love child. Which is to say it sounds like throw back pop with fronted by a guy with a distorted croon. I love it. Pay attention to them. Charts are another of the younger breed of new Portland rock bands. What out, we are no longer a folk town. Pop is on the rise again. The show is FREE and starts at 10 PM.
If you see me at any of these shows please say, "hi".
Ben
