After our recent bout of Stabbitystabbitystabstabstab nostalgia, I had to get hold of that demo, at all cost. Of course, it was way to easy. Now, it's pertinent to CIMTB because Dan is local now, and has been since the '90s. Before that he was part of the Flint, MI scene, in a cubic shit-ton of projects. I went to my former bandmate Tim, who is good friends with Dan and himself a former Flintstoner or whatever it is they call themselves, to ask for a copy of the Stabbity demo, and he revealed...
Well, let me just say bless the internets. Aaron Stengel, singer for Tim's old band Psychotic Playground and erstwhile former Danzig lookalike, has started the unenviable task of creating a comprehensive web home for the crazy-ass music of Flint: the Flint Underground Music Archive.
Now, the Stabbity demo is there in all its lofi glory. Since it doesn't quite capture the chaos of his live show, I poked a little further, and look what I found...
Maybe if we get enough interest worked up in this pointy-shoed brand of solo doomy psychedelia, we can convince Dan to come out of retirement. Hell, maybe the Joys of Oil reunion won't be far behind.

To Goldie: yeah, Tim contributed heavily to this project. Before Aaron took over, Tim was actually trying to do it but lacked the time and website building skills. Dan, as far as I know, wants to play WITH people and not be so much solo. I suspect however that if asked and given a venue, he'd play. He had a bunch of eye surgeries over the last few years and I think that really hindered his ability to get out. I'll forward this to him and maybe we'll get lucky and get to see some fabulous Russell action. I have to say too, I used to watch him back in the Flint days and surprising to no one, was awesome. Far as I know the term for us is Flintoid. Or you can just use cool as fuck.
Well, that would be friggin' awesome. I don't get a chance to hang out with Tim enough, and I haven't seen Dan in about a billion years. They should form some sort of banjo metal supergroup.
That video is dope! I love it. Good job Jess.
So Amy, is Tim, how do you say... tu amo?
Is Tim my master??? I doubt even he would hold that misconception. He is however my snugglebunny squishy face. Don't tell him I called him that in public. I'll call Dan this week sometime, gotta catch him after work but before he's been at the bar too long, ya know??
I don't think we're talking about the same Tim from Flint. I'm talking about Tim Vogan. Don't know that anyone has called him a snugglebunny, not even the Frenchman...
