Hello Dear Readers,
I am back in full effect. There are shows that need going to. You want help out our local scene yes? Then go to some of these here shows:
Monday, October 20th
Here whats the haps.
Valentine's is having an awesome performance by Rush-N-Disco, Angela Fail, and Joe Von Appen. I have seen both RND and Joe Von Appen before and really enjoyed their performance based pieces. I mean its funny and good. A rare combo. And since its probably FREE, why not go? It starts at 9 PM.
Rererato is hosting a show with Lake (Olymopia), Desolation Wilderness (Olympia), Arrington de Dionyso (of Old Time Relijun), and Dual Diangnosis. Lake makes exceptional indie-pop. Desolation Wilderness makes good ambient pop. Arington de Dionyso does what he does. And Dual Diagnosis does what I believe is free jazz? Please correct me if I am wrong. This show is probably a $4 donation. Also Reretato is closing, for good, next month, so go see what a nice little venue it is before its gone.0 It is ALL AGES and starts at 7 PM.
The Tube is having a show featuring Usaisafuckingmonster (Brooklyn), Fist Fite, and Miami Nights. This should be a high energy show in a small place. So if you like that sort of thing, you will be in heaven. I personally have to be in the mood, but who knows. I just might be in the mood tonight. The show starts at 9:30 PM (there is no cover listed).
Tuesday, October 21st
There are some really good shows for Tuesday.
Camp Rainbow (house at 604 N Beech St. Portland OR, 97227) is having a bit of a repeat of Rererao's Monday night show, Lake and Desolation Wilderness (both from Olympia), but with some really good local bonus bands. These bands are the amazing World's Greatest Ghosts, The Old Beleivers, and Breakfast Mountain. This is an amazing line up. For REAL. It is ALL AGES and the cost is whatever you can donate for the touring bands. It doesn't get much better than that. The show starts at 8 PM.
Backspace is also having an amazing show with the Evangelicals (OK) and locals Parenthetical Girls, and Blue Horns. I have seen both local acts and would love to see both again. Especially the Parenthetical Girls who have a new album out entitled Entanglements. Plus I have heard nothing but good things about Evangelists. This ALL AGES show is $7 and starts at 9 PM.
There is a show that I am kinda interested happening at Valentine's as well on Tuesday. This one wil have Flaspar, 40 Hundred Thousand Locked Up Guns, and Trust. I believe I have seen 40 Hundred Thousand Locked Up Guns before and they were good. But I am just really really curious about Flaspar. I have seen their name so much. It seem slike something I might like. Any way, this show is FREE and starts at 9 PM.
Wednesday, October 22nd
These shows spiked my interest.
Every Wednesday in October, the Laurelthirst Public House is having Two Beer Veirs in which Laura Veirs (with Chris Funk and Annalis Tornfelt) play old timey country songs. Anyway it should be really good and there aren't that many Wednesdays left in October (two), so check it out. It is FREE and starts at 6 PM.
Dunes is having a show as part of the Tight Hug series (I have no information on this series)which will feature White Fang and Fleshtone. Both these bands put on very entertaining live performances. Fleshtone has all these scantily clad dances and such. White Fang has a bunch of hyped up teenage boys. It should be a load of fun. Rumour has it that Breakfast Mountain will also be playing. This show will happen at night (sometime after 8 PM).
Holocene is having a show that I would be remiss if I didn't mention. Arrington de Dionyso (of Old Time Relijun), Rollerball and Ghosties will be playing this one. I have been meaning to catch Rollerball ever since Goldie starting going crazy about them a while back. Unlike his performace ealier in the week Arrington will have NYC dancer Melinda Allen performing with him on Wednesday. This show is $5 and starts at 9 PM.
Thursday, October 23rd
A few shows to go to:
Holocene is having a show with Chris Robley, Nick Jaina, These United States, and Vandaveer. This is being billed as a folk rock line up. But be warned the folk rock spectrum is wide (there might even be some "electric guitars"). The show is $7 and starts at 8:30 PM.
There is also a performance by Audie Darling happening at the Camellia Lounge. I saw her play at Valentine's last Sunday and had a good time. Hey its FREE. The show starts at 9 PM.
So if you see me at any of these shows, do not hesitate to come and say "Hi".
-Ben
The Old Believers (not looking that old in this picture) play Camp Rainbow on Tuesday.
