Ben Meyercord's Live Music Picks

Hello Dear Readers,

God I am so tired. I love music so much. There is no time for sleep. Here are some shows that are happening today.

Friday, June 12th

Junior Ambassador's is having a show with Grey Anne, Duo'ver, Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside, and Petoskey. First off I would want to say that Junior Ambassador's is a food cart. Not you your typical music venue. But ALL of these bands/artists/projects/"whatever you want to call them" are great. Plus Grey Anne just got back from a tour down the coast to California. If you come to the show, you can be one of the first to welcome her home. The ALL AGES show is FREE and starts at 6 PM.

The Wail is having a show to raise money to buy a PA. They are calling it PA Fundraiser. It will feature White Fang, Rob Wallmart, Breakfast Mountain, and Ghosting. It is a good time for sure. Plus how cool would it be to have better sound at Artistery? Answer: very cool. The ALL AGES show will have a $5 cover.

Blood Bank is having a show with St. Frankie Lee, Brasstronaut (Vanteuver, B.C.), and Sarah of Battle of Land and Sea. This is a show that kind of slipped under my careless radar. I know that St. Frankie Lee always brings it. I have only seen Battle of Land and Sea once, like a long time ago. It was very good though. So the deal with the the Blood Bank is that it is a house venue which holds FREE ALL AGES shows. That being said, this show is FREE and ALL AGES. It is set to start at 8 PM.

The Aladdin Theater is having a show with Portland Cello Project. They are a big band (not that kind of big band, just a lot of members), so they need a big venue. This is their CD release party. It is out on Kill Rock Stars and features awesome local guy Justin Power. It will be $13-15. The ALL AGES show starts at 8 PM.

Mississippi Studios is have Rebecca Gates & The Consortium (RD), Adam Stephens &The Finite Plain, and Sean Flinn. Rebecca Gates used to play in the Portland band The Spinanes. So this is kinda like a homecoming. Though I think Portland has completely changed since her departure. Also I would like to mention that I met Sean Flinn the other day and he seemed like a real cool guy, then I listened to his music and I was like, "Damn, that's some good music". The show is $10 and starts at 9:30 PM.

Backspace is having a show with Gratitillium, Finn Riggins, and Marmits. Basically Tender Loving Empire is having the CD release show for Gratitillium. The great thing about TLE CD release shows is that they often throw in a CD with the price of admission. They are doing that tonight. Plus Gratitillium are really fun to watch. The ALL AGES show is $7 and starts at 9 PM.

White Eagle is having Mimicking Birds, Celilo and The Black Whales (Seattle). Mimicj=king bird is very good. They are one of those bands that Mr. Issac "I am Modest Mouse" Brock has under his wing. Celilo is an underrated Americana-ish band. So basically this will be a good show. The show is $8 and starts at 9:30 PM.

So please say "Hi" to me if you see me at any of these shows. I most likely say "Hi" back and might even attempt a conversation.

-Ben

Sallie Ford and her band are so good. You can see them at the much smaller Junior Ambassador tonight for FREE.
