You always stay out way past my bedtime. Seriously, I feel like the only twentysomething hipster in town who has an office job and has to work in the morning.. adding that to having the immune system of a consumptive artist, if I get less than 6 or so hours of sleep a night for a couple days, it's like an instant disease. Last night I went out to Dunes to see my friends Best Supporting Actress. The show was billed as starting at 9. Now granted, it was Friday night, and it's my own darn fault, I guess, that I work early saturday mornings. But even though tons of people were there, the first band, Tyrants, didn't even start until about 1045 pm. By then, I was falling asleep in my tequila and squirt (first drink, mind you!) and BSA were playing last. So I had to say "Um, sorry guys, but I'm super tired, I guess not tonight?" The thing is, too, that shows in many places (and especially at the Dunes) are like this even on the weekdays. Why is it cool to show up someplace at least an hour after it's supposed to start? and to start things late accordingly? What about those of us who need our sleep? Am I just getting elderly young?

Diggedy DUNES EFX
Just a quick reminder I'll be spinning some records (Jib Kidder, Ghostface, Del, Eyedea & Abilities, RUN DMC, MF Doom, etc.) in between acts @ Dunes Friday night for Travis Wiggins CD release.
Also super psyched for Dismal City's own Sleepyhead who also has a new record out. I hope he brings some copies for sale, because I have yet to cop one. He's also going to be performing with his cousin Jeff on bass which should be sweet.
Rounding out the bill is my homie David aka Tacodrum aka Papi aka paper/upper/cuts who, in addition to having more nom de plumes than Method Man, is rushing over to the spot after playing a gig earlier in the evening with Secret Powers @ The Artistery.
Been looking forward to this show for quite a while. Holla back surgery.

Why Meyercord is playing a show with NIRE

I asked Ben Meyercord of the band Meyercord to write a little something about his upcoming show. This is what he had to say:
I am very excited to play this show on Thursday.
A while back I decided I was going to play a show with the band NIRE because a) I like their music and b) they live here in Portland just like me. In fact, I remember when I first found/bought their CD, I played a house show the following day with Tigersaw who happened to be staying with NIRE while they were in Portland. I thought that as a sign.
So I set up a show with NIRE. First I emailed them to say 'hey what a crazy coincidence I bought your CD and then I play a show with your friends crazy' (I did not ask why they didn't go to the house show and support their friends there by seeing me play 'casue that would have been awkward). They were nice enough to write back. NIRE took the time to listen to my music page (they left a positive comment on my myspace page it is probably still there if you want to find it, I don't delete unless it is spam).
Next, I went to their show and gave them my demo CD. Then I saw them at various shows. At that point I did what I call 'letting it simmer'. Next thing I know, six months after I set out to make it a reality, they ask me to play with them at Dunes this Thursday. There is even talk of Meyercord playing with the NIRE folks in Hood River sometime in December. But I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. I guess the point of this little schpeel is that I am excited about the show and you should go!
-Ben
