Ben Meyercord's Live Music Picks for Tuesday, February 9th

Hello Dear Readers,

So you didn't get get tickets to the Wilco/Califone show. Sorry, neither did I. But fret not, as there are a couple of other shows happening that feature live local musicians. Speaking of which. Last night I went to see that Parson Red Heads (originally from Oregon) show but I got turned away due to the large amount of people already inside. I thought to myself, they all must have read the blog. Though most of them must have been shy because not many people said "Hi". I hung out out side for a bit but eventually gave up. I headed over to Berbati's where I got all of that show. It was a sparsely attended show. Maybe people don't read the blog. Anytway, I had fun. Devon the drummer for AristeiA was there. He apparently is friends with the band that is on tour, Weatherbox. They were 'aight. Then my man DJ Theo C. aka DJ Ghost Dance made me and two other people tear up the dance floor. He also moonlights as the booker for several local bands including Y La Bamba. The night ended with a very short set by Patterns. Berbati's is rough. Even when you have a good 11 or 12 people watching, it seems like it is very empty. But The Patterns played a good set during which time a very old man came in and started dancing. It was the most adorable thing I had seen in a long time. Anyways here are those shows I referenced earlier:

Tuesday, February 9th

Music Millennium is having an instore with Laura Gibson and Ethan Rose. If you have not heard, Laura Gibson and Ethan Rose made an album together called Bridge Carols. I have heard it and it is beautiful. I think it perfectly marries these two's music. Ethan's almost ambient sometimes glitchy sounds sculptures and Laura's often sparse songs work incredibly well together. I recommend putting this in your bath room while soaking in a warm tub by candle light while the music washes over you. I am pretty sure that kind of behaviours is frowned upon in Music Millennium though, so tonight keep your clothes on. The show is FREE and starts at 7 PM.

Dunes is having Pompoir (Vancouver B.C.), Orca Team, and Reverse Dotty. So when I first googled Pomoir I came across this wiki. "Playing the Flute". Interesting. They are a punk band that had a one song that was kinda surfy, "The Mexx", and another that I did not find to be surfy but was called Riptide. That surf related, no? Orca Team are a lot more surf. They are also a lot more pop. I have been meaning to catch them for a long time. Maybe tonight's my night? I want to get my hands on their album. I need to be able to hear "and she Knows" whenever I want. Reverse Dotty is a band that used to be called Reverse Dotty and the Candy Cane Shivs. They would play lots of house shows and were a bit of a party band. They currently play a form of electropop but not cold European style, rather warm American style (I may be making generalizations that do not yet exist). I sure this will be a fun show. The thing starts at 9 PM.

If you see me at either of these shows please say, "Hi". Your loss if you don't. Because I'm awesome!

-Ben

Does this make you want to go to a show? If so Revese Dotty is playing one at Dunes tonight.
